Three breakout writing groups meet weekly at centers for active aging in Johnston County:

Tuesdays – 1 to 3 pm – Write On! at the Benson Center for Active Aging, 1204 N Johnson St, Benson. Facilitator is Barbara Crowley. Free.

Wednesdays – 3 to 4 pm – The Write Stuff, a memoir writing group, at the Clayton Center for Active Aging, 303 Dairy Rd, Clayton. Facilitator is Char Vinar. Ages: 50+. Free.

Thursdays – 1 to 3 pm – Telling Our Stories at the Harrison Center for Active Aging, 611 W Noble St, Selma. Facilitator is Cindy Brookshire. Free.

Thursday, June 18 – 5 to 7 pm - For those already enrolled in the Fiction Writers Group with John Neblett, this is a reminder that your sixth meeting is at the Public Library of Johnston County & Smithfield, 305 E Market St., in Smithfield, in the Board Room (second floor). The group is free, and uses K.M. Weiland’s Structuring Your Novel book and workbook (available on Amazon) as a reference throughout 2026. The goal is to produce a well-crafted novel by year’s end. neblettassoc@mindspring.com.
